Who we are:
Combat Books is Dan and Monica Aschenbrenner from beautiful St. Louis, MO.
Why we're here: We started this business in 2002 because we love history, and trying to collect pieces of history without being properly informed can cost a person a lot of money. On our quest for information, be it history books or reference books, we kept running into the problem of not being able to find in- depth, specific books on the subjects we were interested in. It usually came down to waiting for a military or gun show, then buying all the books we could afford from there.
Our goal: We want to provide collectors, modelers and historians a user friendly outlet for resources pertaining to a hobby that is fun, rewarding, at times frustrating, and always challenging. Being history fans and collectors ourselves, we will try to keep our customers up on the latest books, fun facts, fakes, and rumors. We will try to stock the best, most useful books we know of so we can provide you with the information you need to gather a rockin' collection. If you've been in this hobby for any length of time at all, then you know the value of good reference library. The informed consumer is the bane of the counterfeiter.
Our disclaimer: First, books only work if you read them. Second, not all the information in every book is correct. The authors try to be as accurate as possible, but things slip through. Really, it's kind of fun to be able to point those kinds of things out - it just means you are very knowledgable about your subject! Third, we are not a part of any type of "movement",or "cause". If you are looking for books glorifying hatred and repression, or a group of people who are into that kind of thing, you need to look elsewhere. We believe in equal treatment for all human beings, regardless of race, religion, or sex. Period.
To our international customers: We can only guarantee the shipping and the condition of the package and its contents as far as the border of the contiguous 48 states. With every package going overseas we ship via USPS Airmail. Unfortunately, the post office doesn't care about our lovely books as much as you and I do. They are known for throwing the parcel into the 'surface to surface' bin instead of the airmail bin - this happens in about 1 of every 10 packages sent internationally. The book(s) can take up to 6 weeks to reach its destination. The post office offers no guarantees and no tracking. I know, I hate it too. Our only other options (UPS, DHL, FEDEX, etc.) cost somewhere in the $100 range for a 5 lb package. I will gladly ship this way if you prefer but I must charge you whatever I get charged from your preferred carrier. On the good side, the post office has not lost a book yet! They may take a while, but all have arrived. If you would like to purchase insurance for your book(s), please send me an email after you place your order and I will provide it for an additional shipping cost (whatever actual insurance costs - I don't like to scam anyone on shipping charges). That being said, sadly I cannot guarantee shipping time or refund money on any international orders because of slow shipping - I wish the post office was more reliable but I guess it's "you get what you pay for". And, I cannot refund money for any damages incurred while your package is in transit unless insurance is purchased.
We would like to thank you for visiting our site and we hope you come back often! Our website is always a work in progress and we are still adding books to the library. If you need something you don't see, feel free to e-mail us. There's a good chance that it just hasn't been entered into our booklist yet, or it might be on order. If it's out of print or we just plain don't carry something, we might still be able to steer you in a direction to help you find it. Thanks again! Have fun!
Our Shipping Policy: We Ship Fast! With rare exception, every book on the website is in stock. We normally ship your book(s) the next business day after your order. If I really feel ambitious, and your order comes early enough in the day, I can sometimes get your order out the same day as it is placed. If, on the rare occasion, an item is out of stock, I'll contact you right away and let you know the time frame for when/if I expect it back in. Once in a while, Dan and I are on the road going to a show, so it could take an extra day to ship on those occasions. I'll usually contact you by email if that is the case.
The free shipping (for USA customers) ships USPS Media mail and normally arrives in 3-7 business days. For our international friends, books are shipped USPS International Air Mail, and usually takes 4-10 days to arrive at it's destination (unless the Post Office puts the package in the wrong bin. Refer to the above paragraph "To our international customers".)
To qualify for free shipping, your order must be over $30, and have a shipping address within the continental US. Air shipping is availabe for a charge - you'll see it all when you go to the check out.
A note about our return/refund policy: U.S. Customers We will gladly refund your money for any new book that you decide you don't want, within 5 days of receipt, provided it is returned to us - at your cost - in "as new" condition. If you decide you don't want a book after the 5 day period, we can take it back, again provided it is in "as new" condition - and give you a store credit for the amount of the book - return shipping is not included. For used books, the policy is the same, except for the "as new" part. I just need the book back in the same condition in which it was sent.
For our international customers: The return policy is the same as specified above, except that shipping charges are not refunded under any circumstances, and return shipping is your responsibility. We cannot refund money for books damaged in shipping unless insurance has specifically been requested in an email after your order has been placed.
Please be assured that we do our utmost to package securely (I used to work for a large shipping company, and I know the awful things that happen to parcels that aren't packaged correctly!), and every book that is listed on our website as "new" leaves our warehouse in new condition. PRIVACY POLICY Here at Combat Books, Inc., we don't share your private information - email address, physical address, what books you buy, what your dog looks like - with any outside party.
Now, with that unpleasantness done, if you need to contact us via snail mail for any reason - book return, sparkling commentary, witty banter - please send it to the following address:
